Do you know everything you should about alcohol?
In partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe, Eurocare has just released a first fully online publication entitled "What does a "safer" Europe look like?".
The online report challenges the view of treating alcohol as an ordinary commodity.
According to the report, alcohol is a toxic and psychoactive substance with dependence-producing properties. A causal link exists between alcohol consumption and a wide range of diseases, including mental and behavioural disorders. Regarding cancer risk, the scientific literature indicates that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.
In addition to this strong statement, Eurocare organises the publication into four main sections:
The first is devoted to the SAFER/Euro initiative, aimings at supporting the implementation of the most effective alcohol policies across the WHO European Region.
Another part highlights the "Alcohol awareness week".
The publication then reviews the progress made in different European countries.
Finally, the publication provides a showcase for SAFER, a crucial World Health Organization (WHO)-led initiative to reduce death, disease and injuries caused by the harmful use of alcohol using high-impact, evidence-based, cost-effective interventions.
An interactive map intelligently facilitates the online reading of the publication. It provides a broad view of the international initiatives carried out in the various European countries as part of awareness-raising.
The map provides an exciting way to illustrate the most exemplary initiatives.
